Hair Growth Journey – Part One

Disclaimer: I’m not the best selfie-taker.

Disclaimer 2: I’m not glammed up for any of these photos. I’m aware that I look tired in some of these, who can blame me though, right?

I shaved my hair off almost a year ago now (June 2018): due to chemotherapy, and my hair started growing back a few weeks after my chemotherapy had finished, around mid-August 2018. From the beginning, I knew I wanted to see the progress of my hair throughout the weeks and months… I wanted to see how fast it would grow and what it would end up like. I’m still going to record the progress, but I thought I would show you part one, as it’s been a year now since chemotherapy.

Here we have the first photo, credit to my sister for taking this off-guard picture. At the time, I told her no photos and no videos, but she reminded me that: you might want to see them in the future and look back. So thank you.

I’m not sure the exact date of this photo, as it’s not owned by myself, but I’m going to guess, June 10th…

I felt that it is valid to insert the first picture with no hair, in order to see the progress. To remind you, I shaved my hair off during the first week of the second round of chemotherapy.

As it goes, I don’t own this photo either, so I can’t fetch the date for you. But I’m going to guess, September 25th 2018. This was when I was in America, receiving proton beam radiotherapy and I was so excited to see my first bits of peach hair come through, and I really wanted to send a picture to everybody back at home.

You’ll be glad to know, I own this picture.

11th October 2018.

And this one… 15th October 2018

22nd October 2018.

Look at all those hairs! 29th October 2018.

They’re growing… 15th November 2018.

15th November 2018.

I was super self-conscious at this point. I was enjoying my hair growing but felt really out of tune with myself. I was realising that short hair just ain’t for me. 28th November 2018.

28th November 2018.

And we jump to 11th December 2018. At this point, I started feeling underwhelmed by the speed of my hair growing. I knew it was going to be a slow process, but I was wishing for a miracle.

11th December 2018

I sort of liked this hair length, looking back, I didn’t at the time. 13th January 2019. The process of my hair growing felt like it was slowing up at this point.

13th January 2019.

I also really like this faze, looking back. It was straight and so soft. 24th January 2019.

Hello slight wave of the hair! 5th February 2019.

5th February 2019. I really liked this length of hair, I thought it looked quite trendy.

It’s so funny to see the different stages of my hair, and how quickly a few weeks can make a different. 13th February 2019.

13th February 2019.

It’s about to get crazy from here… 17th February 2019. A few days difference.

17th February 2019.

7th March 2019. The curl is forming.

7th March 2019. How did it get so curly?

Oh look, I’ve straightened my hair. 20th March 2019. What do you prefer so far, straightened or wavy?

20th March 2019.

25th March 2019.

25th March 2019.

8th April 2019. This length is what I consider an awkward length. It’s not short enough to look cool, but it’s not long enough to look natural.

The waves are back! 26th April 2019.

26th April 2019.

5th May 2019

5th May 2019.

19th May 2019. The waves are getting harder to manage the more my hair grows, so I’m trying to find a style that I like, and I will get my hair cut soon.

I’ve tried to take these pictures as naturally as possible, so you can see the natural growth of hair. I have been using hemp shampoo to stimulate hair growth and keep it really healthy. If you’d like to see a part two, carrying on from here, please let me know.

  1. Your hair is actually growing so fast and my hair journey is very similar to yours! Mine started going so wavy and then just kind of dropped and I found it so hard trying to style it. I hated the awkward stage, even though I was grateful it was growing I kinda just wanted to shave it off haha. It’s looking really healthy and you look great!

  2. My hair grew back so much darker than my natural color but no curls for me. Just straight short but definitely fast growing hair. I think I’m coming up on 8 months of hair growth and my ears are covered now. Crazy
