Cancer and Loneliness: Meet Eva!

It’s common to experience loneliness when you’re going through cancer, it’s an extremely difficult time. Whether you’re being diagnosed, going through treatment or you’ve finished cancer treatment altogether… cancer can make you feel really isolated.

There isn’t a total quick fix for this, but there are a few things you can do to help yourself. So this blog is all about how I am working on cancer and that isolating feeling. These tips might be something for you to consider too!

Support System

It’s important you have a support system who understand what you are going through. From family, friends or work colleagues, having someone whose there, ready to listen and help, it can take a massive weight off your shoulders. Allowing yourself to receive support from others can do wonders, emotional or physical support. It’s crucial you have someone there for you. Make sure you take time to surround yourself with people who love you, and want to make the ride easier for you. Accept the help you deserve.

Facebook Groups

One of the first things I did when I found out I had cancer was join a Facebook group. This was an easy way to control how much I wanted to engage with other people. Yet, a fantastic way to feel like there are other people out there and you don’t even need to talk to them. For example, I joined a Facebook group specifically for lymphoma. There are loads of people who know exactly what you might be feeling, and they are willing to help and support you throughout all the chaos.

Engage With Events

Putting yourself out there is hard. Believe me, I found this really difficult, because I felt scared to engage with cancer-related events. I thought if I attended an event, that would make me feel like a cancer patient. Boy, was I wrong? People who go to these events are most probably feeling what you’re feeling, and understand things that your family and friends might not understand. These events are designed to help you and feel supported. But don’t push yourself, if you aren’t ready then take your time, maybe start off with mingling with people who are in a similar situation. This leads me onto my next point…

Not feeling up to meeting people in person? Then download the app and meet Eva. It’s a quick and easy way to chat with like-minded people. They can offer experience, support and help, joining Eva is an easy and quick opportunity to meet other people. It’s a small step to overcoming that lonely feeling you may be experiencing. All you have to do is send a simple message – it’s easy as that. You might even find me on there!

  1. I have definitely found support groups online and face to face a great support as well as charities and others blogs 😘 it’s weird, I almost feel more connected to some people I’ve never met than to some friends I’ve known for years since going through a cancer diagnosis and treatment ❤️
